Please join me at UCLA on September 6th from 6 to 8:30pm for From Farms to Cities: Percolating New Ideas for Water Security, a panel event co-hosted by Sustainable Conservation and the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.

Following winter rains that pummeled the state, it’s easy for California’s five-year drought to recede in our memories. Resisting that amnesia is essential to our Golden State’s water future. We will explore how farms and cities are capturing rainfall when it is plentiful, and conserving water during dry times. The panel will promote constructive dialogue about how the State is working to recover from the drought, implement the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, and find solutions that meet the needs of farming, communities, and the environment.

Moderated by:

Peter Kareiva, Director, UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and Sustainable Conservation Board Member

Panelists:
Esther Feldman, President, Community Conservation Solutions
Daniel Mountjoy
, Director of Resource Stewardship, Sustainable Conservation
Miles Reiter, Chairman and CEO, Driscoll’s Berries
Nancy Sutley
, Chief Sustainability Officer, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power

Summer is here and recharge is happening! Join Sustainable Conservation on Saturday, August 5th in Seadrift from 4 – 6pm for an informal gathering to hear what’s underway at our on-farm demonstration sites – equipped to measure water being returned to the aquifer. I’ll also share the latest on the progress being made at the federal level to clear the path to fish and wildlife recovery in California.

Sustainable Conservation’s work succeeds in California because we bring together people with different interests to find practical and profound solutions to urgent challenges facing our land, air, and water. I’m looking forward to this timely conversation of finding common ground over wine and hors d’oeuvres this summer. RSVP to Amanda Dyson at [email protected] or 415-857-9163.
